You held me up when I was not strong.
You made me think twice, taught me to do what’s not wrong but what is right.
You led the way up the steepest inclines;
Even when your burden was heavy, you’d still carry mine.
You made me laugh when I was broken.
And made me feel loved with words unspoken.
You raised our children to be wholesome, tender and caring humans …
In a world that’s not always the one we talked of, back when we were young and still scheming.
You took your pain with dignity whilst we could only look on with ignorance and pity,
And when it came for you to say goodbye, I wasn’t there to see you for that one last time.
Take the attention we give you today, we salute you and thank you in our own special way.
And when the day is done, lest not forget those women in this world who are now facing the barrel of a loaded gun.

Inspired by the women who have shaped my amazing world in recognition of #owd2022.
My crude attempt to say, “Thank You”.
